In 1994, the construction of the Beidou satellite navigation system was officially launched. After 26 years and 44 launches, China has successively launched 4 Beidou experimental satellites and 55 Beidou-2 and Beidou-3 networked satellites into space, completing the global network and contributing to the world's global satellite navigation through the "Chinese solution". The research team has overcome more than 160 key core technologies, broken through the localization development of over 500 types of components, and achieved a 100% localization rate of core components for the BeiDou-3 satellite.
On July 31, 2020, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, President of the People's Republic of China, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, attended the completion and opening ceremony of the Beidou-3 global satellite navigation system and announced its official opening. When visiting the exhibition showcasing the achievements of the construction and development of the Beidou system, he emphasized that over the past 26 years, all personnel involved in the development and construction of the Beidou system have faced difficulties, dared to fight tough battles, and continued to strive, carrying forward the spirit of "two bombs and one satellite" and cultivating the Beidou spirit of the new era. They should inherit and promote it well. On that day, congratulatory messages from the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the State Council, and the Central Military Commission pointed out the need to vigorously promote the new era Beidou spirit of "independent innovation, openness and integration, unity, and pursuit of excellence".
